This best planned modern city of India was planned and designed by a famous French architect Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret and can be called a paean to the urban planning. The city has been divided into several self-contained sectors, each with its own market places, hospitals, educational institutions, worship places, gardens and open playgrounds.

Road: The city is well connected with Delhi by NH-21. NH-5 has connected the place with Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
Rail: The city is served by Chandigarh Junction railway station. Twin track railway lines from Delhi and Mumbai up to Ambala and a single track broad gauge line thereafter till Kalka makes the connectivity. Moreover, a narrow gauge single track between Kalka & Shimla has its heritage value.
Air: Chandigarh International Airport serves both this Union Territory and states like Punjab, Haryana & Himachal Pradesh.
